About this Site
This site was created out of a University
of Alabama, College of Education
graduate course called "Church, State and Schooling,"
taught by Dr. Natalie Adams.
The purpose of the site is to give educators easy access to information
about various religions, and ideas on how to use the information
to teach about religion in the public schools systems. This site
was created because there is a need for such information, and many
times even teachers are subject to misinformation and may not fully
understand all the issues around a particular topic.
This site is always evolving; there is always more to add, and
some to take away. There may currently be major pieces missing,
and there may be some material objectionable to some people; that
is the nature of religion, and our idea of tolerance in this country
demands that we allow differences of opinion.
Having said that, it is imperative that we allow for difference
of opinion in and out of the classroom. You will find you will have
better luck as a teacher teaching religion if you keep opinion out
of your lessons and stay with more kinds of factual information.
Any ideas, opinions, attitudes on this site are strictly my own
and do not necessarily reflect those of the University of Alabama
or its officers, trustees or faculty members. The content on this
page has not been reviewed or approved by any expert on religion,
and therefore the accuracy is not guaranteed. Additionally, no responsibility
is assumed for any error.
Please let me know if you have any comments, ideas, suggestions
as to how I can improve and expand this site.
Sincerely,
Susan Lucas
